The main tryout will be Sunday 7/28 @ Stonecrest Pony field.
We are trying something new this year, closing the tryouts to spectators. Please sign in your child, get his sticker and you can come back at the conclusion of the evaluations. Plan to return approx. 2 hours after stated start time. If you have a younger player and are uncomfortable with leaving them alone, you may park in the lot between the Pony field and the playground area and watch from your vehicle. Please do not set up chairs to sit and watch. Please do not stand around and watch. This is a very stressful day for many of these players and the goal is to provide fewer eyes on them to relieve some pressure, allow them relax, and for them to perform at their best. This will also allow the staff to work quickly through drill stations without interference or delay.
Times for each division below:

We have slightly revamped the tryout format for 2020. Some of the same drills will be used; however, we are changing to more drills that provide quantifiable data to our evaluation crew and prospective managers, i.e. exit velocity, throwing velocity, running speed.

Important Information for the 2020 Travel Tryout and Selection Process:
In an effort to continuously improve, the CDBL board first approved a revision to our travel tryout process for the 2018 team selections. This process will continue in 2020, and impacts full time travel and Sunday teams. These changes will add transparency to the process, allow for aconsistent third party skill evaluation, provide timely and consistent announcement of player selection, and many other advantages. If you are interested in trying out for full time or Sunday travel teams for the 2020 season or managing a team, please read the information below carefully.
Anyone wishing to play on a travel team must register online at 2020 Travel/Sunday Registration. The travel registration opens today and is free through Sat, July 21st at midnight. We will continue to allow registration up to the tryout date but there will be a $25 late fee for anyone registering on/after July 21st. CDBL strongly encourages you to register before July 21st as we will be determining the number of teams at each level and approving managers at our July 9th board meeting. We are committed to having at least one full time travel team (9U thru 14U) and one part time Sunday travel team (8U thru 12U) at each level, however community interest up to July 21st will drive the actual number of teams we approve.
***Registration will completely close July 27th at midnight***
On the registration form, you will be asked to select the age level you are trying out for. Since some players choose to play up an age group, you may select multiple age levels. You will also select the travel program you are interested in – full time travel and/or part time Sunday travel. Remember, part time Sunday travel players play on an in-house team AND the Sunday team throughout the season. The last thing you will select is whether or not you are interested in playing on a second team at an age level IF we field a second team. So everyone understands the player selection pecking order, we will be selecting the first team full-time travel teams from oldest to youngest age groups. Then we will choose second team full-time travel teams from oldest to youngest. Lastly, we will select part-time Sunday travel teams oldest to youngest. A player will be eligible for selection ONLY for the teams they expressed interest during registration. Once they are selected, they are no longer eligible for selection on a different team.
2020 travel tryouts will be held on July 28th. They will take approximately 2-hours to complete all of the stations. Specific times will be announced shortly. The tryouts will be evaluated by independent evaluators. The player ratings from the tryout will be used for the automatic player selection process. Each team is comprised of 7 players from automatic selections (the 7 highest rated eligible players at that level) plus 4-5 coach’s picks.
Very Important, if you CANNOT attend the tryout you are still eligible as a coach’s pick provided you registered prior to the tryout date.
Team selection for first full-time travel teams will take place after the tryout on July 28th and will be announced that evening on our website. The selection of a second full-time Travel team and Sunday travel teams will be announced shortly (up to a week) there-after.
All prospective 2020 managers and assistant managers must register online before June 30thso they can be considered in the board vote on July 9th. Approved managers should attend the tryout but will not participate in the evaluation scoring. You are encouraged to take notes during the tryouts to better your information for the coaches pick selections.
We hope these changes will continue to enhance the travel tryout experience for the entire CDBL community. Understanding you may have questions about this process, please reach out to Dave Binz - CDBL Travel Coordinator (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Though we can only enforce this request at our main Plato facility we encourage everyone at all our facilities to refrain from smoking in and around all areas including parking lots, concessions, playgrounds, and playing surface areas. This will ensure a healthy and enjoyable outdoor environment for everyone, most importantly our young players.
Please especially help enforce this at our Plato location as the property is School District owned and is a stipulation of our lease and insurance. Pets are also not allowed for the same reasons at Plato but remain ok at our Stonecrest, and Burlington fields. If you need help with this request while visiting our fields please see concessions or one of the many blue shirt wearing board memebers and they can assist you.
Thank you for your consideration of this important request,
